Thank you for expressing an interest in the role of Director of Commissioning here at Essex County Council.  I believe this role offers career defining opportunities thanks to the size, diversity and our ambition for success.

Essex County Council is one of the largest local authorities in the country – serving a population of 1.4 million, with a budget of approximately £1bn/year, and 7500 employees. We have a reputation in local government as a well-managed and forward-thinking Council.

Adult social care has a gross budget of £600m a year, one of largest in the country, and the Director for Commissioning will play a critical role in helping the council to transform this area.  A key ambition is to continue to move towards a prevention and early intervention approach to better understand the needs of our residents. Ultimately, we hope this will lead to higher engagement from our residents in the design of new solutions.

This is not a traditional commissioning role and we are looking for someone with vision and conviction. However, I feel confident that the opportunities are unapparelled. We are committed to appointing someone who has a good strategic and policy understanding and a feel for the priorities and challenges of Essex.

If you believe you could make a real impact and want to play a critical role in the transformation of Adult Social care in Essex we would love to hear from you.

Nick Presmeg
Executive Director, Adult Social Care
